9 years ago, in May 2016, I packed up my belonging 9 years ago, in May 2016, I packed up my belongings and took a one way flight from England to Canada. As time has gone by I’ve stopped feeling like a tourist or even a traveler - but I’ve never felt like a native either. It’s a unique experience that’s hard to put into words.A constant feeling of belonging because at least for now it’s ‘home’ - and yet not really belonging at all.Maybe it’s Vancouver that makes me feel these feelings of living within the in-between so strongly where it’s always felt so hard to really fit in and build a life. The stories of it being a lonely city and only surface level friendly are largely true - unless you meet the unspoken beauty requirements or know the right people. But wherever you go, you will learn that you can feel homesick and at home in a place at the same time. Like a local and a complete outsider within moments. You will wonder if you are in the right place. Whether you are meant to be there, back where you came from, somewhere else in the Country you moved to, or a new destination entirely. And if you stay in one place for too long with a wandering soul you will constantly wonder if it’s time to leave.

About WITS DT NYCThis was my second time at the About WITS DT NYCThis was my second time at the Women In Travel Summit, after Utah last year. Although the vibes were very different in NYC, some things were exactly the same.✨ The top-tier attendees: Being surrounded by so many amazing, diverse women is inspiring and motivating.✨ Having random adventures: It’s always fun being the “cruise director” of the group. I was injured this year so wasn’t totally on my a-game though 😅✨ There’s always stories to tell…usually fun ones…except that one time at Daisy Dukes when I got left having to pay a drinks bill for random attendees pre-welcome party - and they never came forward to pay it 😳😩✨Meeting creators in real life - If you make the effort you will make friends and connect with potential collaborators if you come to WITS.✨ InfluenceKit Campaign Top Spot: Those who know me or follow me will not be shocked that I was #1 on the leaderboard the entire time 😂📹 WITS sessions, 911 Memorial Museum, Sinister Secrets Walking Tour, Fraunces Tavern, Ulysses, Mercer Labs, Holocaust Museum, Printmaking Workshop, Dead Rabbit daytime cocktail hour, Welcome Party at the Museum, Daisy Dukes, Ulysses, Bessie Awards, WITS floral suitcases, Manhattan by Sail on Clipper CityLots more NYC and WITS content to come!Follow @thisbritslife here and on the blog for Solo Travel, Calgary Stampede, Concerts, Rodeos, Random Stories, and a little bit of Politics sprinkled in from a Country Music loving Brit living in Canada.
