At Blogmas time, I thought it would be fun to do a little Christmas Q&A to tell you all a little more about the girl behind the blog, and maybe help to get you into the festive spirit at the same time.
I know that there is a Christmas tag version of this but as I am a REALLY new blogger, Iโm keeping it simple as a Q&A. If you want to do this Q&A or a variation of it, the list of questions can be found at the end of this blog post for you to cut and paste.
What Do You Love Most About Christmas?
For me, especially in the last few years, it’s been all of the pretty lights and decorations everywhere, Christmas movies, and all the treats.
Least Favourite Part Of Christmas?
More than at any other time of year, Christmas tends to make me feel quite lonely. All of the Christmas movies and Jewellery/gift adverts are full of romance, and men spoiling their partners and families. As a single girl who hasn’t shared Christmas with someone special in a very long time, it all just serves as reminders that no special someone is showing up for me with his time and gifts to show me that I am loved.
What Is Your Favourite Christmas Movie?
This is a tough question as I love Christmas movies but I think I’d go with The Snowman or Santa Claus The Movie as my absolute favorites as I have watched those two movies every year for as long as I can remember.
If you get stuck for things to watch over the holidays, these are great Christmas movies to binge-watch.
Favorite Christmas Smell?
I love the smells of cinnamon and Christmas spices.
Favorite Christmas Songs?
This is SO hard. Some of my top picks are:
- It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas
- Have yourself a merry little Christmas
- Fairytale of New York
- Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow
- Santa Clause is coming to town
- White Christmas
If you’re stuck for festive tunes, here’s an ultimate Christmas music collection to listen to.
When Do You Put Your Tree And Decorations Up?
I never put my tree and decorations up until at least the start of December. Usually, I do it around the 13th but sometimes I do it earlier. This year I will probably do it this week to help me get into the festive spirit.
Is Your Christmas Tree Real Or Fake?
My Christmas tree is fake. I don’t think I’ve ever had a real tree at Christmas.
Do You Always Have A Color Scheme For Your Tree And Christmas Dรฉcor?
I love Christmas dรฉcor and making everything look nice so I always have a color scheme. It’s usually silver and red, gold and red, or variations of that so most of my decorations are silver and gold…and there is always a lot of glitter and sparkle!
Are You A Pro-Wrapper Or Rubbish At It?
I LOVE wrapping presents! I wouldn’t say I’m exactly a pro but I have been asked to wrap gifts for people many a time. One of my favorite activities with my mom at Christmas time was wrapping up everyone’s gifts which always took hours.
Do You Have Any Christmas Traditions?
One of the only traditions that I have is always buying at least one new Christmas decoration every year.
Favorite Savory Festive Treats?
My absolute favorite is mince pies.
You can also find me eating Twiglets and Cheddars if I can get them here in Canada.
Favorite Sweet Festive Treats?
Tunis Cake although I haven’t had one in years. Every year in England my number one priority was always my mission to get a Tunis Cake from Tesco before they sold out.
Other than Tunis Cake, I’d say After Eights, Chocolate Orange, Quality Street, Chocolate Yule Log and shortbread are my Christmas traditions when it comes to sweet treats.
Favorite Festive Drinks?
I always look forward to a glass of mulled wine or mulled cider…so good.
Have You Ever Built A Gingerbread House?
I don’t think I have ever built a gingerbread house…if I have I have no memories of it.
Favorite Childhood Christmas Memories?
I have a couple of favorite memories from my childhood. One is that my job at Christmas was always to get all of the presents and bring them downstairs and place them all under the tree. It was always me, my mum, dad, nan, and grandad and I would carefully organize all of the gifts ready to give them out.
Then my other favorite memory was Christmas morning. After unwrapping all of my stocking gifts I would excitedly go and get Nanny and Grandad from their caravan that was in the garden and we’d all sit around the tree while I gave out all the gifts.
I used to take all of that for granted, and now in later years with them gone, I realize how lucky I was to get all of the gifts I got and to just have my family around me.
If You Could Experience Christmas Anywhere In The World Where Would You Go?
There are a few places that I would love to go to over Christmas.
Firstly, I always wanted to go to New York over the holiday season. It always looks so amazing on TV and in films. I have been to New York once before in the summertime and wanted to see all the lights and the shopping and experiences on offer. It doesn’t disappoint, but it was very triggering to see big crowds of couples and families everywhere. It just seemed to amplify that I don’t have anyone special to spend the holidays with.
If/when I am lucky enough to have a family of my own, a dream of mine is to go to Disneyland over Christmas and New Year…the most magical time of the year at a magical place.
And I know it sounds corny, and I may have watched way too many Hallmark movies, but I would love to just find small quaint little country towns that go all out over Christmas. I have no idea if places like Evergreen exist anywhere but in the movies but if they do please send recommendations my way!
Do You Stay In Your PJ’s Or Get Dressed on Christmas Day?
Usually, I like to have a lazy morning and stay in my PJs for a bit, and then get dressed. Even if I am on my own on Christmas day I still get dressed by about lunchtime.
Do you open Christmas presents on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day?
Always Christmas day. I rarely open presents before Christmas day, and it’s only if I am doing friend gift exchanges.
What Do You Eat On Christmas Day?
My favorite breakfast on Christmas day is fresh smoked salmon, scrambled eggs, and mimosa. If I can be bothered to cook, I will try to do a traditional British Christmas dinner of turkey with all the trimmings.

My favorite about Christmas is the hope I feel. We skipped Christmas for years, sad for us, but this Christmas started again at 4:30 am on Christmas Day!

We’re still debating our Christmas day plans. Husband wants to dress up, I love my PJs.
gemma says
Love it. Maybe you can split the difference and spend half the day in PJ’s and half the day dressed up ๐

This was so fun to read! I have always wanted to visit Disneyland during Chrostmas – so magical indeed!

You have a very lovely blog, Gemma! This was a fun post to get to know you a little more. Our Christmas traditions also include buying one new ornament each year, and watching the movie “It’s a Wonderful Life” with Jimmy Stewart & Donna Reed. Happy Holidays!
gemma says
Thank you so much. Love that we share a tradition. Shamefully I have never seen It’s a Wonderful life. Every year I say I will watch it and then never get around to it, I need to watch it.
The Yorkshire Dreamer says
I love getting a little bit of insight into the blogger behind the blog! I love The Snowman movie; it brings back memories of watching it with my Grandma when we were little, while all the kids sang along horribly. I think I’ve listened to all those Christmas songs already this year. ๐
Putting up a new Christmas decoration each year sounds like a lovely tradition.
Maybe this year you can build a Gingerbread house? Even though I’ve built one, it has never successful stayed up. Great to eat, though. ๐
That is a lovely Christmas memory to read, thank you for sharing. Great post, and such a creative Q&A, thank you for sharing. ๐
gemma says
Thanks so much! I always love learning about the bloggers behind the blogs too, so its great to hear that you do too, and enjoyed this post. Aaah yes ‘walking in the air’ is not an easy song to sing haha. Thing is I’m not keen on Gingerbread so I always figure I will be left with a gingerbread house and no-one to eat it ๐

loved this!

I agree about going to NYC for Christmas one year! It does seem amazing. I’m from Florida and worked at Disney so I can tell you it is beautiful there during the holidays! I’m now going to google mince pie, I don’t know what that is!

I also loved wrapping presents with my momma at Christmas. It is a tradition that I have carried through with my oldest. That and s’mores on Christmas Eve ! Hope you have a merry and bright Christmas!
gemma says
Love that you have carried on that tradition of wrapping presents. Have a lovely Christmas
