What Is Cowboys Music Festival?
The Cowboys Music Festival at the Calgary Stampede is one of the most iconic and high-energy events of the entire 10 days, bringing together live music, and unforgettable Stampede vibes under one legendary tent.
Popular with both locals and visitors to Calgary for the Stampede, it’s a must if you want to experience Stampede nightlife.

The Origins Of The Cowboys Tent During Stampede
Cowboys Music Festival is now one of Calgary’s most iconic Stampede events, famous for its high energy, big-name artists, and non-stop parties. But how did it all begin?
The festival started as an extension of Cowboys Nightclub, a legendary Calgary bar famous for its rowdy Stampede parties, country-meets-club vibe, and celebrity appearances.
Over the years, the popularity of Cowboys during the Calgary Stampede exploded, leading to the creation of a dedicated festival tent—what we now know as the Cowboys Tent.
Since then, Cowboys Music Festival has evolved into a major event, attracting tens of thousands of people every summer and featuring performances from some of the biggest artists in country, pop, and EDM.

Key Milestones In Its Growth

- 2010s: The event attracts International music artists like Chainsmokers, Diplo, and Florida Georgia Line.
- Today: Cowboys Music Festival is one of the largest and most anticipated parties in Canada during Stampede season.

Tips for Enjoying Cowboys Music Festival Solo
Attending a festival alone can feel intimidating, but I’ve found that Cowboys is quite a friendly atmosphere, and as the tent is so big, you have lots of choice on where to stand/hang out. Here’s how to stay safe, stress-free, and have fun:
- Arrive early – Avoid the longest entry lines.
- Check the Gate Admission Times – They vary for every concert and usually range from 2 pm to 5 pm
- Certain Ticket Types Require Entry By Set Times – Check the time restrictions for your ticket to avoid disappointment. For example, the discounted fan tickets have strict admission times as to when you have to be inside the tent by. It’s usually really early.
- Stay hydrated – It’s easy to forget when you’re dancing all night!
- Plan for front row/section – If you know you will want to be at the front, you need to plan. Firstly, you’ll have to get there early (before gate opening time). Secondly, once inside and at the front, you will be in that same spot for a minimum of 6 or 7 hours, so be smart about what you eat and drink beforehand.
- Use the buddy system – Even solo, see if you can connect with friendly festival-goers. If you tend to be at the front like me, making random friends means you can go grab a drink or use the washroom without completely losing your spot. It’s still a bit of a mission to get your spot back, even if you’ve made friends, so plan ahead!
- Be open to spontaneous moments – Some of the best experiences happen when you go with the flow.

Safety Tips
- Keep an eye on your drink. Never leave drinks unattended.
- Have a charged phone. Don’t let your phone completely die.
- Know your exit plan. If the crowd gets too intense, have a way to leave quickly. I usually just scan the tent to see what would be the easiest route to get out.
- Trust your gut. If someone makes you uncomfortable, walk away.
