9 Low Cost Easy Ways To Decorate For Christmas

One of the things that I love most about the holidays is all of the beautiful Christmas decorations! Going to stores and seeing countless rows of festive decor and craft supplies, and decorating my apartment is something that always brings me a little joy.

Decorating for the holidays doesn’t have to be expensive or hard work. You can create a cozy festive vibe in your home without breaking the bank or spending countless hours. Here is a rundown of my favorite low-cost easy ways to decorate for Christmas I just couldn’t say no.

1. Holiday Decor Supplies On A Budget

I have two go-to places for low-cost holiday decor supplies; dollar stores and Michaels craft stores. I always raid the dollar store first and then go to Michaels for anything that I still need.

Here are some suggestions for low-cost multi-purpose festive decor supplies:

  • Glass jars, vases, and bowls (I use a mix of bought jars and old food jars in my decor)
  • Fabric flowers and trimmings
  • Fairy lights
  • Candy Canes
  • Pine Cones
  • Gift bows and ribbons
  • Baubles
  • Metallic picture frames
  • Christmas cards, festive postcards, festive prints
  • Chains of beads
  • Glitter paints, metallic pens, glitter nail varnish etc

2. Decorate With Fairy Lights

Fairy lights are a really easy way to make your home more festive and cozy. I am a little obsessed with fairy lights and have them all over my apartment in different ways because they just look so pretty.

Here are some ways that I have used battery power fairy lights to decorate for the holidays this year.

3. Add Fairy Lights To Shelves

This was a bare shelf that I recently put up. I used a pretty festive plant pot as the centerpiece and then raided my decor box for the other elements. Then I simply wrapped $2 fairy lights around the rope.

The whole look took about 15 minutes to create.

4. Put Fairy Lights In Glass Jars

I got these glass jars at the dollar store for $1.25 each and the lights were $2. You could create a similar effect with plain glass jars (with or without lids) and metallic pens.

You could also fill glass jars with things like beads, gift bows, pine cones, beads, and candy canes.

5. Use Giant Glass Or Plastic Baubles

I love giant baubles, they are so fun! I have 2 hanging ones that just have fairy lights in them and then I have this larger one which I like to fill with different things.

In the summer months, I fill these baubles with white flowers and lights. For Christmas, I have simply switched out the flowers for gold and silver baubles.

6. Decorate With Festive Pictures

Festive pictures are another really quick and easy way to add some festive cheer to your home.

You can easily create festive pictures to put out or hang up with festive cards, postcards or prints, and metallic picture frames.

This is simply a postcard from Paperchase which was about $4 and a gold picture frame from the dollar store which was about $3.

7. Decorate With Festive Plants & Flowers

I love using flowers to decorate because along with fairy lights, they are just so flexible and can be used in so many ways.

8. Festive Floral Arrangements

At Christmas time, another way that I always decorate my apartment is by simply switching out my fabric flowers for festive arrangements.

This lovely turquoise vase usually has white and pink fabric flowers in it, and I’ve simply switched the flowers for some festive sparkle. This arrangement cost me $4 and took me 5 minutes to create.

9. Festive Floral Wreaths

Adding a festive floral wreath is another easy way to decorate for the holidays.

To create a wreath like mine you will just need a gold hoop (large dollar stores or craft stores), ribbon, beads, pine cones, fern, and some wire. Simply arrange your pieces and then wrap them into place on the hoop with wire.

You can also find lots of tutorials for making wreaths on Pinterest.

10. Festive Plants And Plant Pots

Sadly I am not very green-fingered so my plants and ferns may not live, but these lovely festive pots that I got recently look great on shelves and countertops.

Festive plants and pots are another really quick and easy way to add some Christmas decor.

I hope you liked these simple ways to decorate. As per usual I am still decorating my apartment, and playing around with my supplies so this list of ideas may grow. If you have any fabulous quick and easy festive decor ideas I would love to hear about them in the comments.
