9 years ago, in May 2016, I packed up my belonging 9 years ago, in May 2016, I packed up my belongings and took a one way flight from England to Canada.As time has gone by I’ve stopped feeling like a tourist or even a traveler - but I’ve never felt like a native either.It’s a unique experience that’s hard to put into words.A constant feeling of belonging because at least for now it’s ‘home’ - and yet not really belonging at all.Maybe it’s Vancouver that makes me feel these feelings of living within the in-between so strongly where it’s always felt so hard to really fit in and build a life. The stories of it being a lonely city and only surface level friendly are largely true - unless you meet the unspoken beauty requirements or know the right people.But wherever you go, you will learn that you can feel homesick and at home in a place at the same time. Like a local and a complete outsider within moments.You will wonder if you are in the right place.
