A person's feet submerged in the clear, tranquil waters of a swimming pool at the St Regis in Bermuda. The water's surface is calm, with sunlight casting shimmering patterns onto the pool floor, creating a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. Seasonal Self Care – 8 Great Ideas For The Summer

Self-care is just as important in the summer as it is at any other time of year. So this summer, bloggers from all over the world have come together to share their seasonal self-care tips.

1. Get Creative

Any time of year, creativity is great for your mental and emotional health. In the summer there are tons of creative things that you can do whether outdoors or indoors. Painting, drawing, writing, crafting, upcycling furniture, or thrift store items are just a few ideas.

To get some creative inspiration, my favorite places to get ideas for projects are Pinterest, Michaels stores, and other bloggers.

2. Pamper Yourself At Home

You don’t need to go to expensive salons to pamper yourself, there is a lot you can do at home to make yourself feel good. Put on a face mask, use a hydrating hair mask in your hair, paint your nails, and don’t forget to moisturize like you do in colder months. Even if you have oily skin or it’s super hot you still need to moisturize your skin.

3. Make Time For Yourself

The summer can be a really busy time of year. so make sure to take some time out for yourself. Carve out some time regularly to relax, recharge, and be by yourself.

4. Stay Hydrated

It is so important to stay hydrated especially when it gets really hot. Aim to drink at least 10 glasses of water (or other fluids) every day. If like me you struggle with drinking enough keep a water bottle with you as it’s an easy way to keep track of how much you are drinking.

5. Create A Summer Playlist

Playing music with upbeat rhythms and positive lyrics can help reduce stress and will boost your mood especially if you are feeling low.

So find a playlist that brightens your mood or create your own and crank out some tunes.

6. Take Time To Unplug

One of the best things that you can do for your mental and emotional health is to turn off your phone regularly. No phone, no internet, no social media. Give it a try for a couple of hours or an evening every week and see how it feels.

Also, unplug completely 30-60 minutes before you go to bed, and don’t touch your phone as soon as you wake up.

7. Take Your Vacation Days

Whether you have a 9-5 job or run your own business, taking days off work is vital for your emotional, mental, and physical well-being.

If you don’t have tons of vacation time available or your business is really busy then just extend a weekend or two by taking a Friday or Monday off work. That way you get a three or four-day break by only using one or two vacation days.

8. Protect Yourself From The Sun

I have a typical pale English rose complexion so I burn easily. Whether you are fair-skinned like me or not it’s really important to protect your skin from the sun.

Wear sunscreen and top it up regularly, use SPF lip balm and moisturizers, sit in the shade sometimes, and wear a hat.

If you have ever had heat stroke before like I have you will know that it is dreadful, but it is also avoidable. So just be careful about how long you are out in intense heat.

Also, if you have pets, please keep them indoors when it is really hot. It is really dangerous for animals like cats, dogs, rabbits, etc. to be out in intense heat – in fact, it can be fatal so don’t take any risks with your fur babies.

  2. Great ideas! There’s something about summer that makes it seem like the season for ‘me time.’ Doing crafts is such a great way to practice self-care. I have so many half completed projects inspired from Pinterest it’s insane! Maybe someday I will finish them all, but there always seems to be new projects I want to try out.

  3. Lovely self care tips, We forget how harsh the summer can be. I love the music play list. I don’t know why I don’t do that more often!

  5. My husband and I spent every night at the pool and hot tub in the resort we were staying in all week and loved it. We got quality time together, some exercise, and we got to relax! We asked ourselves why we didn’t do that at home more often but we realized it is barely over 70° at night where we live and where we were vacationing it was still 90°+ at night. But we made a plan to still try to at least use the hot tub at least a few nights a week once we get home.

  6. Great tips! And yes, creativity is very good for your mental & emotional health; I’ve sure proven that throughout this pandemic. Thanks for sharing.

  7. Summer playlists are great fun. I like making my own on Spotify. Yeah definitely, I love collaborating with you all 🙂
